At 1:29 P.M. on November 29, 2005, EagleRock created the Elite Guard Barracks for all NG'ers ranked Elite Guard. Precisely 21 hours and 50 minutes later, some guy decided to make a spin-off club of the EGB. That guy was MrCrawford, the founder of one of NG's most successful Portal-related crews in BBS history. Thus, NGPD was born which was open to users who had a police badge. However, the NGPD was almost immediately faced with accusations of being against another crew, the NG Mafia. Crawford was able to resolve the situation with admirable calmness and simplicity, preventing the downfall of the newborn crew. For many months to come, MrCrawford held the title of Commissioner (the title itself did not actually exist until much later in the thread) until he resigned on August 23, 2006 due to the mounting pressure of life's many responsibilities. However, he rejoined the force on January of '08 and influenced a radical change: the creation of a new NGPD thread to revitalize the crew and start fresh with a much more solid OP. After several weeks, this vision was realized with the grand opening of the new NGPD thread. MrCrawford admitted that he initially had no intention of seriously following
through with this club since he was simply poking fun at the EGB and the tremendous success of the NG police dept. caught him
completely by surprise. In March of 2009, Crawford formally disconnected himself from the NGPD due to irreconciliable differences.
First appearing in the old NGPD on page 4, Peregrinus was the NGPD's first Unit of Operations (Unit Ops), basically a fancy title for co-leader which did not exist back then either. It is not quite clear how he became Unit Ops. but it is speculated that with his consistent attendance and his leadership qualities, he ascended to power very easily. In fact, upon his debut to the force, Peregrinus immediately seized the initiative and eventually assumed administrative duty. During his time in the NGPD, he was THE key player who ran the show during Crawford's absence (which was quite frequent). One could say that he was the closest thing the department had to a Commissioner between Crawford and Tails. Through the efforts of Peregrinus, the newborn crew was able to survive its turbulent beginning and eventually thrive. Peregrinus dutifully served in the force until he was promoted to Elite Guard Private and was honorably discharged on January 18, 2006. He was also the third member to ever receive an Honorable Discharge and the first of the NGPD administrative staff to join the EGB. Peregrinus is undoubtedly one of the most important members ever to serve in the NGPD. Nowadays, he is still a member of the EGB and occasionally visits his old crew.
Tails joined the NGPD during the winter of '05 on page 5 (coincidence?) as a humble 14 year old sergeant. Upon his arrival he was greeted by Unit Ops. Peregrinus and even EagleRock, leader of the EGB, little did they know what would become of this seemingly insignificant NG'er. For a while he was a regular on the thread and found his unique way of contributing by drawing an vast arsenal of guns on MS paint for the imaginary use of his fellow cops. Although useless in the actual protection of the portal, the arsenal did get him noticed among the members. His big break finally came when he was nominated for the position of Unit Ops. on page 77 with full support from EagleRock. Finally, Legend, the Unit Ops. during this time, agreed and selected Tails as the new Unit Ops. When Crawford resigned in 2006, Tails was unanimously selected for the position of Commissioner due to the lack of another candidate. As he approached his promotion to EG Private, fate intervened. Newgrounds' redesign had raised the threshold of all b/p badges except Supreme Commander -- this demoted him to police sgt., ironically the same rank he joined the NGPD with, 420 pages ago. Dismayed by the untimely misfortune he resigned in defeat on August 23, 2007 which, by sheer coincidence, was exactly one year after Crawford resigned. However, the newly appointed Commissioner went missing and Tails was eventually forced to return. Tails continues to be an active member and does his best to guide his fellow cops to be the best b/p'ers they can be while keeping the thread from going bat shit crazy.
